Peacock Stevens were commissioned by a private individual to prepare a scheme to obtain additional ground floor space by extending their property. This also required remodelling the internal ground floor layout to provide a more family friendly, open plan living space.

The client brief posed some difficulties. Firstly, the property was located in a conservation area, which meant detailed discussions with the Local Planning Authority and variations on the design in order to obtain consent for the scheme. The proposed scheme involved the complete removal of the back wall of the property to create the open plan space. However, the client did not want any interruptions in the ceiling which meant positioning the steel sections higher in the structure to give the clean lines required. This was all to be done whilst the client and their young family remained in the property.
